Your Self Matters
–
Are you a shlumpadinka?

Do you run errands in your pajamas? Are your husband’s sweats a staple in your wardrobe? If the answer is yes, you may be a shlumpadinka.
Oprah’s been using this word for years, but many people are still in the dark about shlumpadinkas.
Though this word isn’t in Webster’s Dictionary—yet—Oprah says she knows a shlumpadinka when she sees one. “I made this word up a long time ago,” she says. “It represents, for me, a woman who dresses like she has completely given up…and it shows.
Shlumpadinkas are our main target audience here. I quote one Shlumpadinka; “I took no pride in my body, the way I looked, the way I carried myself, and most of all the way I thought about myself. I began dressing up, wearing makeup, wearing high heels, doing my nails, taking care of my face or even the way I ate. I am a completely different woman’.
Self esteem for women, especially, seems to be generally lower than it should be, and unfortunately far too often accompanied by poor body image. Why then are so many women subject to this deprecating state of mind? Perhaps it comes back to the natural laws of femininity. You see, a woman in her natural, feminine state has an in-built desire to radiate beauty. It’s the very reason that we women wear make-up, shave our legs, wax our eyebrows, love to shop, etc.
If that desire for beauty extended to finding that which we already have, it would be an absolute blessing.
Self-image is important because how we think about ourselves directly affects how we feel about ourselves and how we respond to life. Self-image can determine the quality of our relationships with others. How we think and feel about ourselves influences the way we react or respond to life stressors. A positive self-image affects our physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual well being.
I guess what I am trying to say is when you take pride in the way you look and really take an hour out of the day for just you and only you, it really makes a difference in the way you feel about yourself. People’s perception changes about you, people talk to you more, and it can even help you in the work place. So ladies never be afraid to indulge in yourself, you’re worth it, take pride in the way you look and I grantee you will become a whole new woman, a woman you respect and take pride in. If you look your best you will instantly have more self-confidence and others will have more confidence in you.

Great post! It is so true- if we just take a little time out for ourselves, we are better able take care of the important people in our lives. Thanks for the post:) I think I’ll go shower now!
What a brilliant image,Angie!
Thanks Christine, I couldn’t get the one you sent to work! LOL!
Awesome article once again!! Thanks!
This is so very true. I went through that period where I just didn’t care what I put on. But, when I was dressed, made up and hair done, I felt “pretty.” Thanks for the reminder.
I saw that Oprah episode and I also agree that it is important to take care of ourselves and we should do it for ourselves. If you look good you feel good!
I love to hear you all taking care of yourselves! It sure does feel good!!
