What’s Your Choice For Post Workout?
If you have been following @craigballantyne on twitter, you will hear him mention his post workout drink, chocolate milk quite often. This got me to thinking just why he would use chocolate milk and what is someone was lactose intolerant (such as I am) would Chocolate Soy Milk or Almond Milk compare?
So I decided to experiment and find out! First read this article about why chocolate milk is the newest post workout shake. (thanks @tebynum for the link)
Here are the comparisons of some post workouts drinks:
Chocolate Lowfat Milk (Kroger)
Serving Size: 8 oz; Calories: 180, Total Fat: 2.5g, Carbs: 33g, Protein: 9g
Almond Milk (Almond Breeze)
Serving Size: 1 cup; Calories: 88, Total Fat: 4.9g, Carbs: 9.8g, Protein: 1g
Light Chocolate Soymilk (Silk)
Serving Size: 1 cup; Calories: 120, Total Fat: 1.5g, Carbs: 22g, Protein: 5g
Serving Size: 1 scoop (this is what I use) Calories: 100, Total Fat: 0g, Carbs: 15.5g, Protein: 7g
Regular Serving Size: 2 scoops, Calories: 200, Total Fat: 0g, Carbs: 31g, Protein 14g
So by looking at this, they are pretty comparable, and since I can’t use regular milk, I think I will just stick with my Prograde Workout and use Light Chocolate Soy Milk on occasion. What would be your preference?

I love that chocolate milk is the new protein shake! It’s probably way healthier than most of those shakes. To be honest, usually after a workout I really like drinking a glass of skim milk. Having some peanut butter on an apple is also a good way to restore energy.

My choice for post workout is about 1200+ kcals worth of food. I usually start out with about 50g of whey, then pour myself a really big bowl of milk and kiddy cereal. While I am doing this I am usually cooking 180g of rice or about 1.5-2lbs of fried potatoes.

I use GNC’s chocolate whey protein and was using just water for awhile until the manager at the gym suggested I use skim milk for the extra protein, I am lactose intolerant as well, so I have been using fat free LACTAID..works pretty good, plus I can use it on other things as well.
Has anyone ever tried the BioX peanut butter chocolate swirl?? Mmmmm, so good! I mix a scoop with some fat free vanilla yogurt for an indulgent, high protein post-workout nosh! Perfect for satisfying that sweet tooth!
