Weight Loss and Saggy Skin
I get a lot of questions about what to do with that saggy skin that is leftover after lots of weight loss and what I tell them is patience!
There is no magic cure other than surgery, BUT you can tighten that skin if you just keep working hard and be patient! I have heard lots of stories of moms who had all that saggy belly skin after having babies and after lots of hard work and patience, the skin tightened up and they have amazing abs, so I know it can be done.
Continue with your fitness routine, keeping these things in mind:
1. Make sure to have at least 3 days of strength training workouts each week and 3-4 days of intervals. Don’t be afraid of those heavy weights! Those will help to build the muscle and help to tighten the skin.
2. Make sure to be doing core work. Now while ab work won’t reduce the saggy skin, it will help to build muscle from the inside out and start firming up the saggy skin covering your abs.
3. Make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet, as this helps to build up muscle.
4. Make sure to stay fully hydrated and use moisturizer on the saggy area. While I don’t think that there are actual “skin firming” lotions, it is good to keep that skin hydrated.
5. Make sure to incoporate a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables along with lean proteins.
I found these comments about people who have experience tightening up their saggy skin:
“I thought for sure I’d have to get plastic surgery. But the more weight I lost, the more what I thought was loose skin tightened up and the better it looked. Based on my experience, I don’t think you have loose skin; instead there’s more fat under there to lose.”
“Time and exercise have worked for me. Almost four years after losing the bulk of 95 pounds, I only have a few spots that would qualify as loose skin and they’re barely noticeable. The worst spot was my lower stomach, but it only looked a bit wrinkly, not hanging and since I’ve upped my exercise intensity it’s gotten even better. I’m 43 and have birthed two strapping boys, so I don’t have the benefit of youthful elasticity.”
So there, don’t just take it from me, take it from people who have had positive experiences with hard work and patience! So don’t give up just yet! You can do it!

Thanks for the information Angie!
Taking your time losing the weight can really help avoid the saggy skin look. Many time when people try gimmick diets they lose too fast. I always suggest about 2 pounds a week.
Clinton, yes I agree. 2 pounds a week is a good, healthy amount to lose each week. Losing more just makes it harder to keep it off.
Sallie, I hope you find it helped you! You are working so hard, I have NO doubts in my mind!
This is truly a great and insightful post! This problem is something that lots of women experience; and I am very delighted to hear there is really a way to get rid of this. It all starts with a positive frame of mind. A good balanced diet and exercise and a great active lifestyle will do it perfectly! Thanks for the pointers! Life-saver!
