Timing Meals and Nutrition Around Workouts
All this week I have been trying to figure out why I am so exhausted on workout days, which is usually every day of the week! This has been going on for some time now, so I have decided to take some action…
Here is my schedule ….I wake up at 5:30 am every morning and am either heading to the gym, doing cardio at home or training a client. This week so far I have done 2 days of intervals, and 2 days of lifting. I felt the most exhaustion on Tuesday after my Heavy Lower body workout and this morning after Heavy Upper body workout. My workouts looks like this:
Lower Body
*Squats, Leg Extensions, Buglarian Split Squats, Romanian Deadlift, Leg Press, Leg Curl, Ball Leg Curl, Calves
I do these in supersets 3×8 reps at heavy weight. Then I do about 10 minutes on bike to stretch out the muscles.
Upper Body
*Seated Cable Rows, Lat Pulldown, Barbell Curls, Chin Ups, Incline Press, Flyes, Tricep Rope Pulldown, Skull Crusher
I do supersets of these also at 3×8 reps of heavy weight and then do 15 minutes of intervals.
I was exhausted that morning. I even added some banana to before and after workout with my protein shake, glutamine and amino acids. Still exhausted. Yesterday, I took morning off, because I was training a client at 6am. I felt so much better, had more energy and it was great! So I guess I need to really look at what I am eating around and after my workouts that will help me maintain more energy afterwards.
Before and after my workouts I was doing a protein drink, which only has 1 gram of carbs, so obviously I need to add more carbs. This week I have been using soy milk (cuz Im lactose intolerant) and a banana. Afterwards I do protein shake with either yogurt and berries or banana. An hour later I eat a meal, usually eggs with spinach and cheddar cheese. I am going to try to add more carbs to this meal also, like sweet potatoes, oats , wholegrain bread, fruit, brown rice, or beans. This week has been a lot of trial and error, seeing what works and seeing what doesn’t. I hope I get this figured out soon, because it can be very frustrating to be totally exhausted trying to watch children all day!
Oh and by the way..typing this post took a lot of work …my arms are so tired from my workout this morning every push hurts! But hey, thats a GOOD thing!
