The “Natural” Whey Protein

natwheyI am a huge fan of Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey and have used it for years. It’s the very first thing I have each morning, because I work out early, I don’t have the time to eat a meal, so this works perfect for me.

Ever since I posted about the No Sugar For 30 Days, I have been wanting to post about this supplement. Optimum Nutrition has now come out with the 100% Natural Whey. What does “Natural” mean? It means that there are no artificial flavors, colors or sweetners. Instead they use Stevia Extract and here are some if it’s benefits:

“Stevia extract is a super-sweet, low-calorie dietary supplement that helps regulate blood sugar and supports the pancreas. It is valuable for anyone with diabetes and hypoglycemia.

It is a wonderful aid to weight loss and weight management because it contains no calories. In addition, research indicates that it significantly increases glucose tolerance and inhibits glucose absorption. People who ingest stevia daily often report a decrease in their desire for sweets and fatty foods. It may also improve digestion and gastrointestinal function, soothe upset stomachs, and help speed recovery from minor illnesses…

Stevia also inhibits the growth of some bacteria and infectious organisms, including those that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Many individuals using stevia have reported a lower incidence of colds and flu. Many who have used stevia as a mouthwash have experienced a significant decrease in gum disease.”

oatsandwheyI also noticed they have another Natural product called, 100% Natural Oats and Whey. I do sometimes add oats to my shake in the morning, depending on what type of workout I will be doing, as the 100% Whey is lower in carbs. Now you can just buy them together, with no artificial sweetners, or flavorings! It comes in Milk Chocolate and Vanilla Bean flavor.

I have not yet tried the Natural Whey, but am curious and would like to give them a try. If I can get the same benefits, with the same yumy flavor (one of the reasons why I use Optimum Nutrtition…other than Prograde, its the best tasting protein supplement I have found), I am up for trying it!

Have you used the Natural Whey or would you be willing to try it? Let us know your thoughts!

  1. Sounds good…right now I am using GNC’s whey protein, they sell this brand and quite frankly the only reason I have not used it yet is because of the price, but I may have to splurge on this.

  2. It’s still got fructose in – is that allowed no sugar (as fruit is allowed I believe)? Been looking for something like this tho – hope we can get in the UK

  3. I used to be a big lover of ON’s products. That is until I found out about True Protein. No one can compete with True Protein’s prices, therefore I’ll stick with them. Their premium flavors are pretty good as well.

  4. @ Sallie~ I have found ON to be reasonably priced..which is another reason why I love it!

@ Caroline ~You are right..does contain fructose..but it is second to last ingredient..meaning there isn’t much in there..but not sure if it would be allowed with the no sugar…hmmm

@JC~ Haven’t heard of True Protein..will have to check it out!

  5. is this animal or vegetable-based protein mix?

  6. I’ve been using ON’s Natural Whey for years. While it doesn’t taste as good as their artificially flavored powder, with the amount I use, it’s nice not putting that large amount of artificial sweetener into my body.
