Stop The Weight Loss Sabatoge

The scale is not the only way to measure weight loss success.

no-scales

When trying to lose weight, the scale is probably the tool we use the most. When it moves downwards, it’s a great feeling, but when we don’t see it moving – it can be demoralizing. But the scale is not the only “weigh” to measure success. Even more than weighing ourselves, measuring body fat, inches and other physical methods, are subtle cues that we can use as indicators to give ourselves a pat on the back and know that we are still on the right track. Here are a few more ways that show you’re succeeding with your weight loss goals even when the scale doesn’t move.

Your clothes fit better. This is obvious, but I’m not even talking about losing dress size. Remember those tight jeans that you could barely get into. Well now, if they don’t feel as tight anymore – then that’s cause for a celebration. When your belt moves up another notch – then yay, inches are coming off your waistline.

You can walk more stairs or run/ workout longer. Reach for the stars because this means you’re getting fitter.

The scale doesn’t move. Yes, this can be a cause for celebration – especially if it was moving upwards up until recently. Celebrate, because you’re not gaining weight.

You’re more active outside of working out. Once you start doing more physical activities with your kids or other people, then this is another sign that you feel more fit.

Better Sex. Yes, I had to go there. When you’re out of shape, you know it’s easier to be out of breath. If you can go at it a bit longer, and I’m not talking about a marathon session, then you know your workouts are working.

  1. Thanks for letting me guest post Angie!

  2. Many times individuals get to caught up with getting on the scale. I know people that weight themselves two or three times a day. They drive themselves crazy by doing this type activity.

  3. I very much agree…the best way to determine is by how you feel. Get a pair of pants and use them to gauge how your progress is going.

  4. Anytime girl! Thanks for the great tips Tanya!

  5. Also, a dieter needs to consider that the same volume of fat weighs much less than a comparable volume of muslce. When you work out, you are burning fat and building muscle, so that you may actually get physically smaller (nicer fitting clothes, better shape etc) but end up weighing the same or even more.
    Great article!

  6. Exactly Polar F11! And that is what is most important!
