Setting Nutrition Goals

You always hear people talking about setting their exercise goals or weight loss goals, but not very often about their nutrition goals.

Your nutrition plays just as important part of helping you to lose weight as exercising does. Which is why in my boot camp class, I have now added a monthly Nutrition Class. Our last class I had each member set 3 nutrition goals that they would continue to follow for the next month. I only had them choose 3 because I didn’t want them to feel overwhelemed. When a person feels overwhelmed with any type of goal, they are most likely to not follow through because its too much or too hard. I even told them to start with small goals.

Here are one of my members goals:

My nutrition goals are:
1) Increase vegetable consumption (I won’t say with every meal because I know I won’t hit this one.
2) Control portion sizes (this one will be huge for me – I even measured my cereal this morning)
3) Decrease sugars and fruit juices (again, I won’t say eliminate for now because I will fail)

These were perfect! She set goals that she knew were attainable for her! She was starting small. If she would have said, eliminate all sugars and eat vegetables at all meals and she didn’t follow through, most likely she would have felt like a failure and then given up. I am always stressing how they don’t have to give up all the things that they love, just to do them in moderation, just like setting nutrition goals.

I also included this small graph for them to put a smiley face, check mark or sticker every day they attained their goal and at the end of the month, they will bring them back to me and whoever has achieved their goal the most will win a prize. Such fun nutrition can be! ( I am guessing they might not think so)
