Reading food labels …

One of the easiest way to make sure you are putting healthy foods into you mouth is by reading food labels.

Don’t eat foods that have things such as corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, honey, molasses, dextrose, or any other word that has ’sugar” in the list of ingredients.

Not all “fat free” foods are good for you either, most of them contain more sugar making them a worst choice. Make sure the read the labels and ingredients. Healthy fats are needed in your diet. Choose fats such as almonds, walnuts, flaxseed oil, olive oil and natural peanut butter.

Look for foods that contain high fiber. Fiber not only keeps you regular but also helps to prevent a variety of health problems.

One last tip when reading ingredients, they are listed in order of what is used most to produce that product. So if you are looking for a snack bar that contains more oats, makes sure oats is towards the top of the ingredient list!
