My Biggest Gym Pet Peeves

Thank goodness I don’t have to go workout at the gym, as I have my own workout space in my home, because if I had to see the stupid things that people are doing on a daily basis, I might just go off on them! Here are some of the dumbest, or most annoying things that I see at the gym:

1. The “I am talking on my bluetooth on my phone, so I am sure you can’t hear me chatting away while I am doing my cardio” person.

2. The “I am gonna put my back out doing these so called crunches while my body is literally bouncing off the ground” person.

3. The “I am so glad I have this magazine to read in between exercises. This 5 minute break in between is just what I need!” person.

4. The “I can tell I am getting such a good arm workout with these 5 pound weights. I could never be able to lift the 7.5 lb weights, so I will just do these bicep curls faster!” person.

5. The ” I have never done a squat in my life, but I am going to jump on this half ball thing and balance while doing a squat” person.

5. The ” I just know I got in a good workout! I have been here for 2 hours and did 3 weight training exercises and 90 minutes of cardio! person.

Now I could go on and on for hours about all the stupid things people do at the gym, but I would much rather hear about YOUR gym pet peeves…please share by leaving a comment below!

  1. How about..”the I am wearing this new perfume to the gym cause I know studly hung well is gonna check me out person”.

    I don’t know how many times I have had to leave because someone was wearing perfume to the gym…geez people, hopefully you are there to sweat.

  2. I think some of these things are just lack of knowledge for people, and it might be better if you went off on them. I get annoyed when I’m waiting for a machine and someone steals it even though I’m standing there waiting. But like you I’ve got a workout place at home, which is heavenly.

  3. My biggest gym pet peeve? People who come to the gym and pass holier-than-thou judgment on the other people who are at least *trying* to do something good for themselves. When you’re overweight and first venturing into the gym, it’s a scary experience. You often feel like everyone is looking at you and judging you. You feel fat and dumb and awkward and it’s enough to make you never want to come back again.

    So maybe cut people some slack and understand that they are doing their best and they may be scared out of their minds for doing something outside of their comfort zone.

  4. @Sallie~ You seriously had me laughing out loud! OMG..this i so funny and true! Or the ones with all the makeup and hair done all up. Are they really there for a workout?

  5. @PlayfulProfessional~I might get fired, since I still work there, if I went off on them..but some days its really hard not to!

    @Kara~ I totally hear you on this too. Those are the people that I am most proud of. They are in the gym trying to improve themselves and that is one of the hardest steps! If I see someone like that I try to be there for them, to answer questions or give suggestions to make them feel more comfortable. This is also why a lot of people get a trainer for a few sessions. Then the feel much more comfortable when they have a little more knowledge. Or even just ask a trainer…thats what they are there for! ;0)
