Gettin Back On the Fat Burning Wagon…
They say it takes about 30 days to develop a habit and only about 3 days to break one. Well, that is if you don’t have the willpower or motivation to keep that habit while taking a break. Let me explain…
This past weekend, my husband and I and some friends took a trip to Vegas. We left on Thursday (but I got my workout in on thursday morning) and didn’t return until Sunday. I have every intention of working out in Vegas until I found out you had to pay $20 each time you wanted to use the gym. Well, the fact that we were in Vegas and everywhere you wanted to go, you pretty much had to walk, I figured I was getting enough exercise! We also went dancing…doesn’t dancing count as a workout? Sure felt like it to me-I was sore all over the next day!
Our eating habits, while not bad choices, were few. Not my usual 5-6 meals…more like 2-3. I did bring some protein bars to munch on when I really needed something, but otherwise…not my normal meals.
So, after a trip like that..how does one get “back into the swing of things”? Well, for me..it was enough motivation when I stepped on the scale and had gained 3 lbs! Not only that, but I didn’t like how I felt…tired, bloated and just plain yucky.
Monday I didn’t get up at my usual time to workout, instead I slept in. After that I was ready…ready to start working out and eating all my healthy, yummy meals again! It was baby steps, but it happened. Tuesday I planned my meals and got up and went to the gym and did upper body workout, Wednesday was cardio in the morning and Thursday was lower body! It only took me one day to recover and jump back on the “fat burning wagon” and now I am so ready to start working hard again to reach my goal of 17% BF.
So there you have it…you don’t have to be “one of the statistics”, you can use your own motivation and willpower and not let it take those 30 days to get back into a habit of working out. If you just set your mind to it, you can continue to reach your goals!
